POS Admin opens the wrong version of Quickbooks

Legacy KB ID: 3523

Question

When I press the BOOKS icon in POS Admin it opens the wrong version of QuickBooks.

Answer

The reason this happens is that you have more than one version of QuickBooks installed on that computer and the file association is linked to the older version.

The way around this is to:

1. Firstly in POS Admin go to TOOLS > OPTIONS and in the GENERAL TAB you will see the QuickBooks Data File. Make a note of the location.

2. Now close POS Admin and go to that location where the QuickBooks Data File is located.

3. Right click on the file and select OPEN WITH > CHOOSE PROGRAM

4. When the OPEN WITH screen appears press the BROWSE button.

5. You will then go to the QuickBooks Installation Directory which is usually (C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks) and in here you will see a file called QBW32.EXE and just double click on it.

6. It will then appear in the OPEN WITH screen and also place a TICK where it says ALWAYS USE THE SELECTED PROGRAM TO OPEN THIS KIND OF FILE. Now the file association has been corrected.

7. Now if you open up POS Admin and hit the BOOKS icon it will open the correct version of QuickBooks.
