Reckon Desktop POS: Selected key has no function error when scanning a barcode inside POS

Legacy KB ID: 5517

Question

Why do I get the error: "Selected key has no function" when scanning a barcode inside of Reckon Desktop POS?

Answer

Ensure the Scanner is properly configured and then in Options, set POS keyboard selection to none and PC keyboard selection to the default.

The issue

You will experience this issue with an incorrect keyboard setup for your scanner or other keyboard related issue.

Using Reckon Accounts and Reckon Desktop POS in a non-standard Windows environment (eg: parallels on Apple or Linux) may increase the frequency of this issue.

Workaround

  1. In POS Terminal Options: set the POS keyboard selection to none and PC keyboard selection to the default. If this fixes the problem then investigate the keys of the setup that was being used.
  2. Check that the scanner is in “USB default mode” rather than on factory default or other settings.
  3. Check the scanner is properly configured.
  4. In POS Terminal Options is correct and not disabled (ie. close and restart POS Terminal).
