when I scan a product’s barcode?

Answer

You will experience this issue if your Language and Regional settings show an option other than English (Australia) and you scanned the barcode into the Item’s Barcode field in the Quickbooks company file.  The barcode entry has an incorrect symbol at the start of the barcode sequence.

Solution

Before starting this solution, complete an End of Day on all terminals and Post data to QuickBooks.

1.    In QuickBooks, confirm that the Barcode field for the item has at its first character (a non-numeric character) something other than the Tilde (~) symbol (found to the left of the number 1 key);

2.    Close QuickBooks;

3.    Start > Control Panel > Region and Language

4.    In the Format field, click the dropdown arrow and select English (Australia).

If the Format option is already English (Australia), then this option was probably changed after the barcodes were scanned into the Barcode field.

5.    Click Apply and then click on the Keyboards and Languages tab > Change keyboards button;

6.    Set Default input language to English (Australia)-US > OK

7.    OK to save and close.

8.    Launch QuickBooks and rescan the Product Barcode into the Barcode field and see the barcode number appear.  Rescan all products.

9.    Transfer the Product List to Retail Point of Sale.

Your items should now scan correctly without the error message.

Additional Information

To ensure that the Senor Scanner is properly configured, see the setup barcodes in the Retail POS 2012/13 Installation and Upgrade Guide on the Quicken website at https://library.reckon.com.au/library/pdf/2012-13_RetailPOS_IIFI.pdf.

To test that your scanner is properly configured:
1. Open Notepad
2. scan a barcode
3. the result should be:
      line 1: ~123456789
      line 2: cursor
If you get any other result then review your setup to produce this result.
