Error - You can only open the file name.qpw from X drive, opening a company file from the network

Question

Why do I get the error: “You can only open the file name.qpw from X drive” when opening my company file from a network location?

 

Answer

Create a folder in your Mapped Drive and transfer your company file to it.

 

The Issue

You may experience this problem when you place the company file in the root directory of your Mapped Drive.  Payroll Premier can only open company files from a Folder within the root directory.

 

Solution

Reset your Network Data Path to the exact Drive\Folder\sub-folder of your company file.

1.    Create a folder in your Mapped Drive.

2.    Delete QCompany.tps file from your Local Drive folders (C:\QPRollV24 and C:\PQRollV24\QPayroll) and your Server folder;

3.    Rename or delete QPV23.ini file from C:\Windows or Qpv24.ini from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Payroll Premier (new location for PP15/16)

4.    Copy company files manually from the Server location to C:\QPRollv24\Data

5.    Launch Payroll Premier and open all your company files from  your local drive folder (C:\QPRollV24\Data)

6.    Push your company files to the mapped drive folder through file > Setup Network Data Path.

7.    Reset the Network Data Path on other computers.

You should now be able to open your company file from the Server location.
