Crash: COM Error after installing Reckon Accounts
Legacy KB ID: 3785
Question
Why do I get the error “Crash: Com Error” trying to open Reckon Accounts for the first time?
Answer
This problem may be encountered on Windows devices if the .Net Framework 3.5 or the Service Pack 1 is not present or if the .Net Framework 3.5 and/or the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 files have become corrupt.
Solution
If you do not have .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 installed, visit the Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22 and follow their instructions to download and install the service pack.
You must then run Automatic Updates to pick up key security updates. To start Automatic Updates click on Start > All Programs > Windows Update and follow the prompts.
If the .Net Framework 3.5 and .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 are installed but the installation files are corrupt, uninstall the .Net Framework 3.5:
- Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
- Scroll down the list to Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5, highlight it and select "Remove"
Once removed, download the .Net Framework 3.5 from the Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21 and follow their instructions to install it. Then, download and install the service pack 1 for .Net Framework 3.5 from the Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22.
Again, you must run automatic updates to pick up key security updates. To start automatic updates click on Start > Settings > Windows Update and follow the prompts.
Finally, open Reckon Accounts.
