Legacy KB ID: 5264

Question

Why do I get the error:

You have selected a Kitchen Printer but have not indicated where it is connected. Please select an item in the 'Connected To' list for the Kitchen Printer.

when I change Option settings on my POS 2015 PC?

Answer

Download the POSOptions.dll file.

The Issue

This issue may arise in Point of Sale 2015 when:

·         making a change to an Option setting on a POS terminal PC;

·         you have a Kitchen Printer connected that is controlled by another PC;

·         the Kitchen Printer is set to use a COM or Virtual COM port that is available on the controller PC but not on the other terminal PCs.

When you attempt to save any Options changes the error message is generated as the Kitchen Printer is unable to find the COM port specified for it on this PC.

As an example, if the kitchen printer is set up to use COM 2 on the kitchen print controller terminal, and other terminals don’t have a COM 2, then COM 2 will no longer show in their Connected To list on the Kitchen Printer tab on those terminals and so when you attempt to save any changes to Options on those terminals, it will complain.

This issue does not occur in earlier or later releases of Point of Sale.

Solution

1.    Click on this link - POSOptions.dll – to download the file.  Save it to your Desktop

2.    Copy the file and Paste it to your POS Terminal installation folder on all POS Terminal machines, replacing the existing file of that name..

The default installation location is:

C:\Reckon\Point of Sale Professional 2015 Terminal\

You should now be able to make changes to your Options on Terminal PCs that are not the Kitchen Printer controller PC.

Please keep a copy of this file with your installation disks as this file will need to be copied again if you have to re-install your POS software. The version of this new file is 18.0.0.8 whereas the original file version is 18.0.0.7

Alternate Work-around

If you need to save changes to Options on machines that aren't the kitchen printer controller and you get this message, set the Kitchen Printer Type to 'None', save the change(s), then set the Kitchen Printer back to what it should be on the Kitchen Printer controller terminal and save.
