Question

When I export the Employee Details Report in Payroll Premier to Excel, why do I get the error:

The file you are trying to open, Employee.XLS, is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file.  Do you want to open the file now?

Clicking Yes opens a blank Excel file with the name Employee.XLS.

Answer

The Employee Details Report in Payroll Premier is in a format that cannot be exported to Excel.  This has been the case in all Payroll Premier versions and is a limitation of the software.

Payroll Premier allows you to go through the process of exporting as the export function is open to all reports.  However, only reports that are created in a format that can be exported to Excel will be successful.

Workaround

Some of the information can be obtained by creating various customized reports through: Reports Icon > Wizard > to create reports with details of your own chosing.

How did we do?

Some or all employees are not showing up on STP export report

Error - You can only open the file name.qpw from X drive, opening a company file from the network
