An error occurred updating the database file when adding Reward Tracker accounts and transactions.

Question

Why do I get the error: ‘An error occurred updating the database file C:\folder\filename.rwc with the new transaction details’ when I enter a transaction or add an account in Reward Tracker.

Answer

You will get this error if, when having a Reward Tracker file open, you move or delete:

·         the Reward Tracker database file, or

·         the folder that contains the Reward Tracker database file.

You should only move a Reward Tracker database file, or the folder that contains it, when the Reward Tracker database file is closed. 

Workaround

If the Reward Tracker database file has been moved:

1.    Close the Reward Tracker file and close Quicken;

2.    Open Quicken, then the Reward Tracker.  You will get a message:

          The previously opened database file <location> connected to this Quicken File cannot be found. 

3.    Follow the recommendation in the message box:

a.    Click OK to close the box and open Reward Tracker;

b.    On the Menu line, select File > Open >

c.    Browse to the new location of the Reward Tracker database file (extension .rwc) and select it

d.    Enter new accounts and transactions. 

If you do not know the new location of your Rewards Tracker database file, use your PC’s search facility to search for files with the extension .rwc.

If your Rewards Tracker database file has been deleted:

1.    Check the Recycle Bin.  If it is there, right-click it and select Restore.

2.    If your Rewards Tracker database file is not found in the Recycle bin, you will need to restore the file from your PC’s general backup file.

(the default location of the Rewards Tracker database file is C:\ProgramData\ Intuit\Quicken\RewardTracker\)

3.    If your Rewards Tracker database file has not been backed up, you will need to start a new file. 

Additional Information

Do not modify the RewardsTracker.ini file that resides with the database files, with another application like Notepad; or rename its extension.  Changes to this file by methods other than Rewards Tracker will result in error messages being generated when Rewards Tracker is used.  These errors however, are benign and can be ignored.
