Question

Why can't I successfully update my share prices online?

Answer

There are several elements which could be responsible for problems with updating share prices online.

Firstly, you should verify that your Internet Connection Setup is correct.

This can be done through Edit =>Internet Connection Setup.

56k Modem users should use the option ''I have an existing dial-up internet connection''.

ADSL, Cable and LAN users should select the option '' have a direct internet connection''.

Note ADSL and Cable connections almost always need proxy settings entered in this wizard. This can be done on the wizard page entitled "Tell us about your Proxy Server". If in doubt, contact your ISP to get the correct proxy settings.

If you are still having trouble updating share prices, then try accessing another online feature from within Quicken.

Try some of the links from within the Customer Resources Centre and see if the currency list is updating successfully. If both of these works, and you still can't update stock prices, try to reach https://squotes.quicken.com.au/ from your normal browser.

If you can't see the words "Quicken Stock Quote Server" then your internet connection can't reach the download server. You should contact your ISP to properly configure your internet connection.

If you can see the words "Quicken Stock Quote Server" then your internet connection can reach the download server. Check the exchange and security information is correct for the stocks you're trying to update prices for.

This can be done by going to Edit => Options => Internet Options => Quotes and making sure the all the stocks that you are attempting to update are selected. If you are still unable to update share prices online successfully after attempting the suggested items in this article, you could contact Quicken Technical Support.
