Unable to locate PDF viewer when trying to display a Reconciliation Report

Question

Why do I get the error:

Unable to locate PDF viewer

You need PDF software to view and print this reconciliation report.

 when I try to view a Reconciliation Report?  I have Adobe Acrobat installed.

Install Adobe Acrobat XI

 

The issue

This issue will be experienced by users who recently upgraded to the latest version of Acrobat Reader – Acrobat Reader DC (or version XII).  This upgrade uninstalled version XI and set the reading of PDF documents by version XII.

Reckon Accounts Business is not configured to use Acrobat Reader DC. 

 

Workaround

Install Acrobat Reader XI

1.    Download and save to desktop Adobe Reader 11.0.10 from:  https://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe

2.    Install by clicking on your Adobe desktop icon

3.    Open Adobe Reader XI and activate it

4.    Set file associations to use Adobe Reader XI to open PDF files:

a.    Control Panel > Default Programs

b.    Click on: Associate a file type or protocol with a program

c.    Scroll down the program list to *.pdf

d.    Highlight it and click on Change program button

e.    Click on Other Programs > Browse

f.     Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader

g.    Scroll down to AcroRD32.exe and double click it.

h.    Click OK and then Close to save and exit.

Your report should now open.
