Resetting the cheque number counter

Legacy KB ID: 612

Question

How do I reset the cheque number counter?

Answer

To reset the cheque number counter:

1. From the Reckon Accounts Banking menu, choose Write Cheques. Make sure the bank account shown is the one you want to use.

2. Clear the To be printed checkbox.

3. Create a dummy cheque with any payee, amount and account, but change the cheque number to the last cheque number actually used. For example, if the next cheque number is supposed to be 1002, use cheque number 1001 for this cheque.

4. Click Yes when you receive the message, This cheque number has already been used. Do you want to continue?

5. Click Save & New to record the dummy cheque.

6. Click Prev to find the dummy cheque. (Cheque number created in Step 3.)

7. Click Edit at the top of the window, and choose Delete Cheque.

8. The next cheque number will then increment normally from the deleted/dummy cheque. Note: Editing the number of a previous cheque will not reset the cheque number counter.
