QuickBooks does not respond when you click Reconcile Now

Legacy KB ID: 1791

Question

How can I stop the program from not responding when I click Reconcile Now?

Answer

For QuickBooks QBi users (2008/09 and later) on Windows 7 & Vista

Some users have found the following steps resolved their issue:

1.    Before beginning, create a Restore Point for your computer.

2.    Assign QuickBooks v303 PDF converter to Nul2 port:

See kb3577: https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=3577

3.    Assign the Send to One Note 2010 printer to a Nul Port:

See kb3577 above for information on assigning printers to ports.

4.    Set your document printer as your Default Printer.

5.    Check that the QuickBooks PDF converter is not set to Use Printer Offline:

1.    Start > Printers & Devices

2.    Right-click QuickBooks v303 PDF converter and select See what’s printing;

3.    Delete any documents in the print queue by highlighting them,and right-click. and selecting Cancel All Documents;

4.    Click on the Printer option on the Menu line;

5.    If there is a tick next to Use Printer Offline, click on it;

6.    Close all dialog boxes.

6.    Delete the QuickBooks printer files – qbprint.qbp and wpr.ini.

See kb304: https://kb.reckon.com.au/issue_view.asp?ID=304 for full details.

7.    Disable UAC

8.    Restart the computer.

If these steps do not resolve the issue then try one of the following:

Restart your PC in Windows Safe Mode and perform a reconciliation.

To start Windows in Safe Mode:

1.    While the computer is restarting press the F8 key on your keyboard at a rate of about 4 keystrokes per second (Keep pressing the F8 key on your keyboard until a menu appears).

2.    Select option Number 3 from the menu (Start Windows in Safe Mode) by pressing the '3' key on your keyboard and then pressing the 'Enter' key.  Windows will now start in Safe Mode.

3.    Wait for the message 'Windows is now running in safe mode' to appear and then press the OK button to continue.  The word(s) Safe Mode will now appear in all four corners of the screen.

4.    Open QuickBooks and perform your reconciliation.

Turn off the Print Spooler

(Care:  turning off the print spooler may delete network printers requiring them to be installed again.)

1.    Right click 'My Computer';

2.    Select 'Manage';

3.    Click 'Click Services and Applications';

4.    Double click 'Services';

5.    Locate 'Print Spooler', right click and select 'Stop';

6.    Close Computer Management.

Turning off the Print Spooler should now allow successful reconciliation and the ability to print the reconciliation reports.
