Unable to restore a data file from a backup

I'm unable to restore a datafile from my backup. Why is this?

Answer

Possible answers:

1) Your backup file may be corrupt.

2) Your backup drive does not contain a backup file.

5) You may be trying to restore the file to a version of the software, which is older than the version used to create the file.
