Why do I receive the warning message - .QBW is not a QuickBooks file or it is damage and / or This data is from an older version of QuickBooks. Please update your company file using QuickBooks 2007/08 then try again?

Answer

This warning message will appear if:

  • You are attempting to upgrade a data file from version 8 or earlier to QuickBooks 2007/08
    or
  • You are attempting to upgrade a data file from QuickBooks 2006/07 or earlier to QuickBooks 2008/09

Current Version               Upgrade Path
v7.3 or earlier                       1. Install QuickBooks V7.4 Trial
                                            2. Install QuickBooks 2002 Trial (version 9)
                                            3. Install QuickBooks 2007/08
                                            4. Install QuickBooks 2008/09


V7.4 to V8                           1. Install QuickBooks 2002 Trial (version 9)
                                           2. Install QuickBooks 2007/08
                                           3. Install QuickBooks 2008/09
