Linking a cash account to an investment account

Question

How do I link a cash account to an investment account?

Answer

One of the new features in Quicken 2005 is the ability to handle cash-type transactions in the investment register. A linked account may not be necessary for your purposes. Quicken 2005 will always create a new linked account.

You cannot link an investment account to an existing cash/checking account.

To link a cash account to an investment account:

1. From the Quicken Tools menu, choose Account List.

2. Select your investment account, and then click Edit at the top of the window.

3. Select Yes for Show cash in a checking account, and then click OK.

4. You will be prompted to create a backup. Verify the data file name and backup location, and then click OK.

5. Once the file has backed up successfully, click OK. In the Account List, you will see a new cash flow account with the same name as the investment account with the word Cash appended.

All cash transactions in your investment account will be moved to your linked cash account.
