Cannot Read or Write into Data Base – Run-time error 91 - Object variable or with block variable not

Legacy KB ID: 4458

Question

Why can’t I post my POS End of Day data to my Reckon file?  I keep getting the error: “Cannot Read or Write into Data Base Run-time error 91 - Object variable or with block variable not set

Answer

You will experience this error if the information held by POS regarding inputs to a transaction (for example, customer details) is different to the information held by Reckon Accounts due largely to corruption in either files or both.

Both files need to be rebuilt.

Detailed Instructions

  1. Close POS Terminal and Administrator
  2. Verify that both POS Terminal and POS Administrator are using the same POS database file (QBPOS.PDB)
    1. In Windows Explorer, go to: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Reckon\PointOfSale.
    2. Right click on PointOfSale.ini and open it with Notepad.
    3. Under [AdminDatabase] check the database path.
The default path is "DatabasePath=C:\Reckon\Point of Sale Professional Administrator\QBPOS.PDB"
    4. Under [TerminalDatabase] check the database path.
The default path is "DatabasePath=C:\Reckon\Point of Sale Professional Administrator\QBPOS.PDB"
These must be the same. If they are different, determine which is correct and change the other to the same path in this file
    5. Save and close the file.
  3. Rebuild and then verify your QuickBooks company file. If any errors are found correct them.
  4. Open POS Administrator and compact and Repair the database file.
  5. Post the End of Day File to your company file.

Additional Note

This problem may occur on any version of Point of Sale.
