Tender Credit Card option does not process EFT and opens the Cash Draw

Legacy KB ID: 3976

Question

Why does the cash draw open when I process a Credit Card transaction?  It will not process through the electronic terminal either, and I have to use the EFT function.

Answer

The Tender Credit Card button was designed for handling paper-based credit card transactions.  It does not have a connection to the EFT function.

Paper-based credit card processing has been largely replaced by online processing through the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) terminals.

Consequently, credit card transactions should now be processed through the Tender EFT button.

Only when there is a physical problem with the credit card or the EFT terminal is not operational, will a paper based credit card transaction be required (including a phone authorization from the Credit Card provider).

Workaround

There are a couple of actions that can be taken to avoid confusion.

1.    Alter the title of the Credit Card tender button from Credit Card to Credit Card (paper only).

2.    In addition to 1. above, create a new EFT tender button and rename it Credit Card (electronic):

a.    Change the Caption field to Credit Card (electronic);

b.    Tick the box Use EFTPOS;

c.    Tick any other box that is relevant for your situation;

d.    Click Apply and OK;

e.    Reposition on-screen tender buttons to suit.
