Storing the CVV number for Credit Cards in Payment Services

Legacy KB ID: 4473

Question

Some banks require me to enter the CVV number when processing a credit card payment through Payment Services.  How can I store this number in Reckon Accounts?

Answer

The requirement to enter the CVV number is a new feature being introduced by banks to improve the security for credit card use.  As of 1/4/2012 only the Commonwealth Bank requires the CVV to process a transaction.  Over time we expect that all banks will require the CVV number.

The use of the CVV number is governed by a Code of Conduct developed by the international organization PCI Security Standards Council.  A feature of the code of conduct is that verification data like the CVV not be stored with account numbers. Reckon Accounts is designed in conformity with this requirement.

You cannot store the CVV number with other account information for the Customer in Reckon Accounts.

Workaround

Contact the customer at each transaction for the CVV number to complete the transaction in Payment Services.

Additional Information

The PCI Security Standards Council code of conduct does not allow a processor to store verification data like the CVV number in any form.  For more information visit:  https://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/
