Legacy KB ID: 1126

Question

When attempting to start Reckon Accounts, how do I resolve the following error messages:

"Unexpected Error: An error has occurred in Reckon Accounts. C=342" followed by "Reckon Accounts has encountered a problem and needs to close."

Answer

Your computer's operating system is Microsoft® Windows XP, and the Reckon Accounts shortcut or executable file (the file that is used to start an application) is set to Windows compatibility mode for Microsoft® Windows® 95, Windows® 98, or Windows® Millennium Edition (ME).

To resolve this error message:

  1. Right-click the Reckon Accounts program icon on your Microsoft® Windows® Desktop, and then choose Properties. (Or click the Microsoft® Windows® Start button, choose Programs, then right-click the Reckon Accounts shortcut, and then choose Properties.)
  2. Click the Compatibility tab.
  3. Clear the checkmark from the Run-in compatibility mode option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. You should now be able to run Reckon Accounts without receiving the error message.
