Reckon Accounts Business does not start on a newly upgraded PC

Legacy KB ID: 5346

Question

Why won’t Reckon Accounts business start on my newly upgraded PC?  I get the error:

"Reckon Accounts has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Answer

Set the Reckon Accounts Business launch icon to Run As Administrator.

The Issue

Reckon Accounts Business may not launch on an operating system introduced after its version was released.  Windows 10 was released after 2015 version was released.

The next version will be fully compatible with the prevailing Microsoft operating system.  2016 version will operate without issue on Windows 10.

Minor configuration tweaks will allow the software to run.

Workaround:

Set the launch icon to Run as Administrator.

On a Windows10 PC:

  1. Right click the Reckon Accounts Desktop icon
  2. Properties > compatibility tab > Settings section
  3. Tick the box Run this program as an administrator
  4. Click OK and OK to close.

Reckon Accounts Business should now launch.

If you are using an older version of Reckon Accounts Business then you may need to tick Compatibility Mode and select Windows 7.  For versions before 2011/12 you should set the Compatibility Mode for WindowsXP.
