Importing Bank Statement information into Reckon Accounts personal ( Formerly Quicken)

Legacy KB ID: 4021

Question

How do I import my Bank Statement information directly into Reckon Accounts Personal (formerly Quicken)?

Answer

Reckon Accounts Personal (RAP) (formerly Quicken) has a facility to import information from your bank statement directly into your RAP accounts.

To use this facility you need to obtain your bank statement in a QIF (Australian) format.  Most banks provide this option, and some offer two QIF formats.   You cannot use any other QIF format other than the Australian format (date format dd/mm/yyyy).  Where the bank offers you QIF and QIF (Australia), choose the QIF (Australia).  Where the bank allows you to vary the date format of the export, ensure dd/mm/yyyy format is selected.

Note:  some banks offer a QFX format – Quicken Financial Exchange.  This format is used by RAP for the transfer of share transactions only.  It cannot be used for the transfer of bank statement information.

Importing Bank Statement information

1.    Before commencing you should make a fresh backup of your RAP data file, taking care not to over-write existing backups.

2.    Save a copy of your bank statement in QIF (Australia) format from your bank’s internet site to your computer – eg, to My Documents.

3.    Import the bank statement into RAP:

a.    File > Import > QIF Files

b.    Next to QIF File to Import, click on Browse to find your downloaded file;

c.    Select the RAP Bank Account to import to;

d.    In the Include to Import section, tick relevant boxes;

e.    Click OK to import;

f.     Click OK to recognise transactions successfully imported.

4.    Process the imported transactions:

a.    Open the Register for your Bank Account that has received the import;

b.    At the bottom of the screen click on the Downloaded Transactions tab;

c.    If you wish to import the transactions with only the bank information in them, select Accept All;

d.    Otherwise, highlight each transaction and click on Accept;

e.    Follow the prompts to add category and payee details to the transaction;

f.     In the register, add payee, tag, memo and tax information;

g.    Click OK to save the transaction;

h.    Repeat for all transactions.
