Functions restricted to the Admin User

Question

What functions in Reckon Accounts are restricted to the Admin User?

Answer

The Reckon Accounts Admin User is automatically created with a new company file.  The Admin User has full access to all Reckon Accounts functions.

There are some functions that can only be carried out by the Admin User.  These include:

·         Add Users

·         Change User permissions

·         Change Preferences

·         Upgrade the file to a newer or higher version

·         Audit a Company file

·         Create Accountant’s Copy

·         Import data – from IIF, Excel, POS,

·         Export Data to IIF

·         Clean up Company Data

When there is more than one user to a company file all users should have their separate User accounts with appropriate permissions for normal day-to-day actions.  This approach will leave the Admin User free for use by select users to carry out restricted functions.  Of course, only one user at a time could use the Admin User account.

It is also advantageous for single users to have a separate User account from the Admin User account.  The other account can be used in emergency circumstances like when a password is forgotten, or the user is locked out of the file by a system crash.
