Item Prompt window appears when selecting an item in QuickBooks Point Of Sale

Legacy KB ID: 3507

Question

I have upgraded to QuickBooks Point Of Sale 2005/06 version; Why does a window showing 'Item Prompt' appear when I choose an item to sell?

Answer

We have introduced a new feature in the 2005/06 version called Item Prompt, this can be used in a situation where you would like to be prompted to communicate something to the customer or the sales staff when selling a particular product.

The information displayed in the Item Prompt window is compiled from the information saved to that particular item in the QuickBooks item list, specifically in the Item Prompt field in the custom fields window. For more information see the QuickBooks help index 'custom fields'.

For those users who would prefer to stop the Item Prompt window from appearing we have released an update that can be installed to each computer running the Point of Sale terminal. Please print this article and follow the instruction below to apply the update.

1. Download the file QBPOS2005UP1 and save it to a location on your hard drive (eg C:\).
     https://library.reckon.com.au/library/exe/QBPOS2005UP1.exe
2.Close Point of Sale Administrator and Terminal 2005/06 programs
3. Find the saved file in C:\ QBPOS2005UP1 and double click on it to run the setup program
4. Follow the installation instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
5. Once you have installed the QuickBooks Point of Sale update you can safely delete the file QBPOS2005UP1.exe, or save it to reinstall if necessary at a later date.
6. Open QuickBooks Point of Sale program
7. To check the Service Pack has been installed select Help > About and it will display Version 8.0.34

To turn the Item Prompt off select the appropriate ‘Design Keyboard Layout’ option and edit the Product Number key. This function has a new option ‘Item Prompt Off’.
