The No Tax Code Filter doesn't filter Gen Journals correctly

Legacy KB ID: 3726

Question

Why does QuickBooks display General Journal entries with tax codes after I have filtered the report for a tax code of No Tax Code?

Answer

In QBI, General Journals do not use Tax Codes but Tax Items.  (Tax Items are linked to Tax Codes and have the same codes.)

Reports have been modified so that Tax Item entries on General Journals will show in Tax Code columns of reports.  However, filters on reports can’t be modified to include Tax Items from General Journals when Tax Codes are requested.

When a tax code filter is applied, General Journal entries will be ignored.

When you filter for No Tax Code, the entries on the report with tax codes are removed.  General Journal entries will remain with their tax items.

Workaround

There is no workaround in QuickBooks.

You can use Excel to modify the report:

1.    Open your desired report and filter for No Tax Code.

2.    Export the report to Excel.

3.    Use Excel functions to remove General Journal entries displaying Tax Items.

How did we do?

"Transaction Split lines to accounts payable must include a supplier on that split line" when entering a general journal
