“Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" error when viewing a PDF report created in Quicken

Question

Why do I get the error: “Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" when viewing a PDF report created in Quicken?

Answer

This error is being reported by users who have upgraded their Acrobat Reader to version X (10.0). 

The error occurs when you try to view the PDF report when Quicken is open.  If Quicken is closed then you can view the PDF report. 

 

Workaround

 

Windows 7 & Vista users

 

Set Adobe to run in non-protected mode:

1.    Open the Adobe Reader: 

a.    Start > All Programs > Adobe Reader X;

2.    Edit > Preferences > General tab;

3.    Untick the box: Enable Protect Mode on Startup;

4.    Click OK to close.

 

If you still have a problem the set Acrobat Reader to run in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP:

1.    Computer > C:\ > Program Files > Adobe > Reader 10.0 > Reader;

2.    Right click on AcroRd32.exe and select Properties, then Compatibility tab;

3.    Under Compatibility mode, check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows XP (service pack 2) from the box below;

4.    Under Privilege Level, check the box Run this program as an Administrator;

5.    Click OK to finish.

6.    If you have a shortcut icon on your Desktop for the Acrobat Reader 10.0, right click on it and select Properties, then Compatibility tab and follow steps 3-5.

 

Windows XP users:

Close Quicken and view the PDF report. 

 

Alternate Workaround 1
Remove Adobe Reader v10 and install Adobe Reader v9.4.1
1.  Uninstall Adobe Reader v10 through Control Panel
2.  Click hereto download v9.4.1 from www.Adobe.com.
         In Step 1 select your operating system
         In Step 2 select English as your Language;
         In Step 3 select Reader 9.4 English for Windows
 

Alternate Workaround 2
Uninstall Adobe Reader v10 and install another PDF reader
