QBwin.log level_error_connection _connectionstring and _dbconnpool

Legacy KB ID: 3924

Question

When I try to view a cheque Reckon crashes with an unrecoverable error.  I re-open the file and do a Rebuild and Verify and both processes end with No Errors Found.  When I view the QBwin.log file I see these lines:

  1. level_error_connection error
  2. level_error_connectionstring
  3. level_error_dbconnpool

Reckon still crashes when I try to view the cheque, either through the bank register or by using the "Previous" button in Write Cheque. What do these errors mean and what do I do about it?

Answer

Reckon was unable to access the area of the database that contains the information of the transaction.  Further information on the line should identify the specific transaction.  The transaction, or another transaction it is linked to like a invoice, bill, purchase order, sales order etc..., is corrupt.

Solution

Before proceeding, make a backup of your company file.  Do not over-write existing backups.
  1. In the same register try viewing the transaction immediately before the one forcing the crash and the one immediately after it.  If they do not crash Reckon then the particular transaction is corrupt.
  2. Rebuild your data file three times in succession (do not over-write existing files)
  3. Attempt to open the transaction again.  If Reckon still crashes then continue with these steps.
  4. Take down as many details of the transaction that you can from the register entry.
  5. Highlight the transaction in the register then click on the top menu line Edit and select Delete xxxxx, where xxxxx is the transaction type.
  6. Open the transactions in Step 1 again to confirm you can still view them.
  7. Create a Portable Company File and then restore it.
    1. Rebuild the file (do not over-write existing backups)
    2. Verify the file then examine the QBwin.log file for any errors.
  8. If the above errors are not listed then your company file is now fixed.
  9. If the steps above do not resolve the issue, please log a support ticket here: https://www.reckon.com/au/support/ or contact our dedicated technical support line for further assistance and escalation.
