No message that importing Accountant’s Changes has failed

Legacy KB ID: 3741

Question

I have imported my Accountant’s Changes but when I examine my company file no changes have been imported.  There were no messages to say that the import failed. Why?

Answer

You may experience this event on editions of QuickBooks Pro and lower in the 2008/09 versions.  This error does not occur in more recent versions.

Your Accountant views your Accountant’s Copy through a special Premier edition of QuickBooks.  Work done by the Accountant remains compatible with your lower version, but that edition does allow the Accountant to turn on features that are available in the Premier edition and may not be available in your edition.

If the Accountant turns on a feature that is not available in your edition of QuickBooks, then the Accountant’s Changes will not be imported into your edition.

QuickBooks does not generate a message that the import has failed.

This error does not occur in more recent versions and warning messages are given in the Accountant’s Copy when turning on the feature, that it will not be imported into the client file.  When the Accountant’s Changes are imported a failure message is generated.

Solution

The Accountant will need to redo his changes, taking care not to turn on any features that are not available in your edition of QuickBooks - refer to the Help Menu for what an Accountant can and cannot do in the Accountant's Copy.

Alternatively, enter the transactions manually from your printout of the accountant’s changes.

If the feature needs to be turned on to process a transaction, then your QuickBooks edition is no longer adequate for your needs.  You will need to upgrade your QuickBooks to a higher edition that contains the feature you now need.

To prevent future problems with the Accountant’s Copy, upgrade to the latest version of QuickBooks.
