Error "Error in QuickBooks response, there has been an internal error when processing the request" when processing a Customer Balance Transfer

Legacy KB ID: 3529

Question

Why do I get the error message "Error in QuickBooks response, there has been an internal error when processing the request" when transferring customer balance from POS Admin?

Answer

When you do Customer Balance transfer (eg. POS, maybe also Customer Manager or any other integrated QuickBooks application)

When you first integrate, QuickBooks asks if you want to allow access to the external application, and if you want to give access to sensitive Customer Info.

You give access to the sensitive Customer Info, or you have since gone into QuickBooks to Edit > Preferences > Integrated Applications > Company Preferences, selected the integrated app > Properties > tick "Allow this application to access NI numbers, customer credit card information, and other personal information".

If any of your customers in QuickBooks have credit card numbers entered in their record, when you do the customer balance transfer, you get the error "Error in QuickBooks response, there has been an internal error when processing the request". QuickBooks gives this error as we are not allowing the credit card data to be sent, to comply with Govt. guidelines. (The change was made in Jan 2005)

To correct this and avoid any issue do the following:

To leave the "Allow this application to access NI numbers, customer credit card information, and other personal information" tick box unticked, or untick it if it is already ticked.

How did we do?

Unable to install QuickBooks POS Admin 2004

QuickPos Admin.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.
