Question

How do I create a Restore Point on Windows 8?

Answer

Follow the steps below to turn on system Restore and to create your first Restore Point.  (Earlier operating systems have similar steps)

Detailed Instructions

To turn on System Restore:

1.    Start > Control Panel > (System and Security) > System;

2.    Click on Advanced system settings in the left hand pane;

3.    Click on the System Protection tab;

4.    In Protection Settings each physical disk will be listed and the Protection status will be either ON if System Restore is turned on for that disk, or OFF if System Restore is not turned on.  Usually Local Disk C is set to ON;

5.    Highlight a disk and click Configure;

6.    In Restore Settings, click on Turn on system protection;

7.    In Disk Space Usage, slide the Max Usage bar to a percentage that will allow a number of Restore Points to be maintained.  When space fills up, the older Restore Point will be automatically deleted;

8.    Click OK to complete this process.

Continue to create a System Restore Point now:

9.    Click on Create;

10. When prompted, give the Restore Point a name;

11. When complete you will get the message:  The restore point was created successfully.  Click on Close.
