Accounts Business / QuickBooks hangs when click Reconcile Now

Legacy KB ID: 4282

Question

Why does Accounts Business / QuickBooks hang when I try to reconcile an account?

Answer

You may experience this issue under a number of circumstances, and you get any one of an array of error messages like:

·         QuickBooks freezes when you try to reconcile accounts

·         QuickBooks is not responding

·         Print Driver Host for 32-bit Applications has Stopped Working

·         There is a problem connecting to your currently selected printer, Microsoft XPS Document writer on XPS port....

·         Could not print to printer

·         Error: QuickBooks can't complete the current action due to a missing component

·         The device is not ready

This issue results from the Reckon Accounts V4 PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF Converter conflicting with some other system on your computer:

·         With the QBi series and Office 2010 installed, this is most likely to do with a conflict with the Send to One Note Printer.

·         It may also result from the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF converter sharing a printer port with other processes.

·         In pre QBi versions and older Windows operating system the problem may be with other software that utilizes PDF creating processes (like FaxTalk Communicator).

Other reasons include:

·         The Reckon Accounts PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF converter settings are not compatible with some settings on some 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Vista, or XP operating systems.

·         The Reckon Accounts PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF converter is selected as the default printer in Windows.

·         The Reckon Accounts PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF converter is set to Use Printer Offline.

The outcome of Reconcile Now crashing varies among users.  In some cases the Reconciliation has been processed, but reports not printed.  Users should relaunch QuickBooks and check Reports > Banking > Previous Reconciliation.  If the report for the latest Reconciliation exists, then you can print the report.

If the reports were not printed then before attempting a reconciliation again, follow the checks below that are relevant for your computer environment.

Workaround

In the first instance, ensure that the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter / QuickBooks PDF converter, or the Reckon PDF Printer for QuickBooks 2012/13 and later, and the Send to Note 2010 printer are set to their own printer ports.

1.    Before beginning, create a Restore Point for your computer.

2.    Delete the QuickBooks printer files QBprint.qbp and wpr.ini:

    1. Windows 7 & Vista:  C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx-x1\

b.    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\    Intuit\QuickBooks 20xx-x1\

3.    Assign QuickBooks PDF Converter to a separate port:

(Note for 2014 users:  the Reckon Accounts V4 PDF Converter has already been set to its own port (RA2014Port), so you can skipthis section)

a.    Go to Printers and Devices:

                                          i.    Shortcut:  Start > Printers & Devices; otherwise:

                                         ii.    Windows 7:  Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > View Devices and Printers > right-click Reckon PDF Printer and choose See what’s printing.

                                        iii.    Windows Vista:  Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Printer. Right-click the Reckon PDF Printer and choose Open.

                                       iv.    Windows XP: Double-click Printers and Faxes. Right-click the Reckon PDF Printer and choose Open.

If there are items in the print queue, delete them;

b.    Select Printer Properties > Ports > Add Port > Local Port > New Port;

                                          i.    In Enter a port name, enter ReckonPDF > OK;

                                         ii.    Click on Advance tab;

1.    Select Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster;

2.    Clear the checkbox labelled Enable advanced printing features;

3.    Select Print directly to printer;

4.    Click the Driver dropdown box and select Amyuni Document Converter 300 > Apply > OK

c.    Repeat these steps for Send to One Note printer, applying the name OneNote.

d.    For 64-bit systems:

                                          i.    Right-click the Windows taskbar and choose Task Manager;

                                         ii.    Processes > Image Name > highlight splWOW64.exe and click End Process.  Click on end Process or Yes to complete;

4.    Set your document printer as your Default Printer

5.    Disable UAC

6.    Close all applications and restart the computer.

If this procedure does not resolve the issue then continue with this guide.

The following two workarounds – restarting in Safe Mode and restarting the print spooler are known to allow you to reconcile your accounts.  The other steps may or may not resolve the issue in all cases.

Restart your PC in Safe Mode

If you still have the problem, restart your PC in Safe Mode and launch QuickBooks only and complete your reconciliation.  If operating on a network you will need to choose Safe Mode with Networking.   When finished restart your PC into normal mode.

OR

Restart the print spooler

(Care:  in some networks this step will force you to reconfigure network printers.  Please refer to your IT Admin for guidance.)

QuickBooks uses temporary files while creating your .pdf file, named Intuit_QBOB_Internal.pdf. This file then gets converted to your .pdf. Sometimes Windows prevents these temporary files from being edited or renamed. QuickBooks is then unable to create your final .pdf file.

1.    Right-click Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen and select Start Task Manager and select Processes tab.

2.    Select the spoolsv.exe process and click End Process.

3.    Click the Windows Start button and then:

a.    Windows 7 or Vista: In the Search field, enter Intuit_QBOB_Internal and press Enter.

b.    Windows XP:  Click Search, select All Files and Folders, and enter Intuit_QBOB_Internal in the filename field.

4.    Delete all files that are found.

5.    Click the Windows Start button and enter %temp% in the Search field and press Enter to open the TEMP folder.

6.    Locate any Intuit_QBOB_Internal.pdf files and delete them. Sort the files alphabetically to make finding the files easier.

7.    Restart the Print spooler:

a.    Click the Windows Start button:

                                          i.    Windows 7 or Windows Vista:  In the Search field, enter services.msc and press Enter.

                                         ii.    Windows XP:  Click Run and type services.msc in the Run field and click OK.

b.    Right-click the Print Spooler process and select Restart

8.    Open QuickBooks and try reconciling your account again.

(Care:  in some networks you may need to reconfigure network printers)

Other workarounds:

Delete and reinstall the QuickBooks PDF driver.
Note: Other PDF printers, such as products from Viewpoint, may use the same driver files as the QuickBooks PDF Converter. These PDF converters will also need to be deleted before the drivers can be removed.

Rename the qbprint.qbp file.

See KB304 https://www.quicken.com.au/kb/issue_view.asp?ID=304 for details steps.

Select another default printer:

2.    Open the Printers Control Panel in Windows

3.    Right-click a printer (not the QuickBooks PDF Converter) and choose Set as Default Printer.

4.    Open QuickBooks and repeat the .pdf file-related task that originally generated the error.
