Cant record a pay due to an error about invalid tax codes for the payment date.

Legacy KB ID: 1190

Question

Why do I get the following error when I try to enter a pay?

Tax Details For [Employee Name] are not valid for the payment date **/**/**. Before creating or editing a payment the employee must have valid tax codes.
This information is invalid for the tax code. To make changes click 'Ok' and enter the information. When done, click 'Ok' to record the changes. If you do not wish to enter information now click 'Cancel'.

Answer

This error message doesn't mean that your Tax Scales are invalid.

When you set up an employee for Payroll you enter the Payroll Tax Scale the employee is on, and you also enter the Effective From date. If you try to enter a pay for a date before this 'Effective From' date you will receive this error message.

To fix this;

  1. When the message appears click 'Ok'.
  2. The 'Edit Employee' window will then appear. In the 'Effective Date' filed enter the correct date.
  3. Click 'Ok' to save these changes.
