Customers names are missing when reports preference is set to Gross

Legacy KB ID: 3728

Question

Why does QuickBooks not show the Customer Name in the Sales by Customer Detail Report?

Answer

This problem will be encountered on a number of reports:

1. Sales by Customer Detail
2. Sales by Item Detail
3. Sales by Rep Detail
4. Income by Customer Detail

when they are set to display on a Gross basis.  Instead of the Customer Name, No Name is displayed.

Net basis reports show the Customer Name correctly.

Workaround

Solution 1:  View the reports on a Net basis.

Solution 2:  Modify the Custom Transaction Detail Report

To replicate the Sales by Customer Detail Report:

1      Click on Edit, then Preferences, then Reports & Graphs, and then Company Preferences;

2      Under Default Reporting click on the Gross radio button;

3      Click on Tax, then Company Preferences;

4      Under Sales Figures, click on Gross radio button and click OK;

5      Open the Custom Transaction Detail Report;

6      On the menu line of the report change the Total By box to Customer;

7      Click on Modify Report then Filters tab

8      In the Choose Filters box, highlight Transaction Type and select Multiple Accounts and select Tax Invoice and Sales Receipts;

9      Still in the Choose Filters box, highlight Account and select Multiple Accounts and select Accounts Receivable, Undeposited Funds and any other account Sales are recorded in (eg. Bank accounts, Credit Card accounts)

10   Click OK to complete the filter selection;

11   Add or delete columns to customize the report;

12   Memorize for future access.

Carry out similar steps to reproduce other reports that show No Name for the customer where sales are set to Gross.
