Internet Connection to Reckon Accounts Hosted slow and regularly drops out

Legacy KB ID: 4210

Question

What can I do to speed up processing and intermittent dropouts to Reckon Accounts (formerly QuickBooks) Hosted?

Answer

There are many reasons why your connection may be slow or volatile.  After checking that there are no other reasons why processing may be slow, like file size, integrity of the file, PC and internet permissions, it may be that your:

·         internet is experiencing slow connection times;

·         Routers/modems inappropriately configured for Remote Desktop Connection

Internet is experiencing slow connection times

ADSL 1 or Wireless users are more susceptible to relatively slow connection times or a "heavy" feeling.  This is a ‘High Latency’ connection which takes a while to connect but will eventually work.

You can improve performance by setting Experience parameters for your Remote Desktop Connection (RDP).

1.    Start > Run > type: MSTSC and press Enter to open the RDP Connection Manager;

2.    In the lower left corner, press Options;

3.    Click on the Experience tab;

4.    In Choose your connection speed to optimize performance, click the dropdown arrow and select Satellite (2Mbps - 16Mbps with high latency);

5.    Click the General tab and click Save to save these options as your default RDP connection type.

Routers/Modems inappropriately configured for Remote Desktop Connection

You should refer to your IT professional.

There are several reasons why a router or modem will negatively impact on RDP and will vary from model to model and between different computers and network environments. You may be required to change your router or modem.
