Process an end of day produces Run Time Error 52 or causes POS terminal to freeze.

Legacy KB ID: 3287

Question

When performing an end of day in POS, I receive the error "Process an end of day produces Run Time Error 52 or causes POS terminal to freeze", followed by either a 440 automation error, or POS terminal crashing?

Answer

This is caused by using an invalid character in your Terminal ID name.

When the End of day file is created, the end of day file inserts your Terminal ID as part of the file name. When the Terminal ID has one of these invalid characters, the end of day process will generate the error and the end of day file is not created.

Solution

To resolve this error:

  1. Within POS Terminal, go to Tools then options.
  2. Select the General tab.
  3. In the Terminal Id field remove the invalid characters.

You should now be able to create your End of Day file

Please note: This error could also be caused if you were running windows Vista without service pack 1 and to remedy, you need to download and install Windows Vista SP1 in order to overcome this error or any program freezing problem you may experience.
