Error: "QHI.IDB file not found"

Question

How do I resolve the following error message when attempting to start Quicken Home Inventory?
QHI.IDB file not found

Answer

To resolve this issue:

  1. Hold down the Ctrl key while starting Quicken Home Inventory.
  2. From the Quicken Home Inventory File menu, either:

    • Choose Open if you have an existing Quicken Home Inventory file, select the file from the Look in drop-down list, and then click Open.
    • Choose New if you have not yet created a Quicken Home Inventory file, and then select desired the location from the Save in drop-down list. Enter a File Name, click Save, and then follow the onscreen instructions to create the new file.

Note: Because Quicken Home Inventory is a separate program, inventory (.idb) files are independent from Quicken data files. If you copied or moved your Quicken data file from another computer, search for the .idb file on the original computer, copy or move the file to a 3.5-inch disk, insert the disk into the new computer's disk drive, and then follow the instructions in Step 2 for existing Quicken Home Inventory files.
