Cannot see mapped network drives when using Windows 10

Legacy KB ID: 5341

Question

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and now I cannot see the mapped network drives that contain my company files.  How can I access them?

Answer

The manner in which Windows 10 manages Administrator permissions means that when a programme is run with elevated privileges (Run as Administrator), mapped network drives are not visible.

A tweak in the Registry will make these mapped network drives visible again.
