Cannot delete PDF attachments to a transaction

Legacy KB ID: 3837

Question

Why can’t I delete a PDF attachment to a transaction?  I get the error: “The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.”

Answer

If you delete the original pdf document from your computer you will still get the error.  You cannot replace the pdf as other attachments will be stored concurrently.

Other formats – eg clipboard – can be deleted.

Workaround

Removing the pdf document

If you need to remove the pdf document then you will need to delete the transaction and reinput it.

Adding new pdf documents that you will delete in the future

  1. Open the pdf document in your PDF Reader
  2. Reformat the PDF Reader screen so the full page is visible
  3. Save the image to the clipboard by clicking on ALT and Print Screen
  4. Attach to your Quicken transaction using the Clipboard button
  5. Repeat for each page that needs to be attached.
