Sending an email from Accounts Business takes a very long time

Legacy KB ID: 5269

Question

Recently Accounts Business has started taking a very long time (over 2 minutes) to prepare an email attachment and send it.  Why?

Answer

A single email attachment should be created within 5 seconds.

Email attachments are created by the Reckon Accounts PDF Converter.  Any aspect that impacts on a printing function can impact on the creation of the PDF.

The latest generation of printers are being released with advanced functionality that require extensive additional drivers.  These added drivers have the potential to cause conflicts with Reckon Accounts PDF operations.

Problems could be magnified when running a Accounts Business version that is not supported on a 64-bit operating system or in a Virtual Machine on a non-supported operating system.

Solutions

In the first instance, users should eliminate usual sources of PDF generation problems:

·         Does the problem occur on other files like the Sample file?  If it does not then:

o    create a Portable Company File;

o    restore the Portable Company File;

o    Rebuild and Verify the company file.

·         Toggle between email options in Edit > Preferences > Online > Company Preferences.  Tick and untick the box Display each email when sending more than one

·         Take one invoice as a test:

o    Does changing templates make a difference?

o    Does changing fonts make a difference ?

·         Uninstall and re-install the Accounts Business PDF driver:

o    64-bit systems:  click HERE for KB3577: Accounts Business PDF problems on 64-bit Windows Operating Systems when emailing or reconciling

o    Other systems:   click HERE for KB1154: Installing the "Accounts Business PDF Converter" or "Intuit Internal Printer" driver file

·         Uninstall printers, test without them, add them back in one at a time.

This problem has been reported on the following printers:

(The problem can be avoided by using ‘generic’ printer drivers for that make and model.  Using generic drivers will mean advanced printing features may not be available.  Refer to the printer’s user guide.)

·         HP OfficeJet 7500 series:

o    Workaround – use HP LaserJet 4 PCL5 or PCL6 driver

·         HP Laserjet 3055 Printer and Fax

o    Workaround – use HP LaserJet 4 PCL5 or PCL6 driver
