Legacy KB ID: 550

Question

Why am I receiving an error message that contains the value C=53?

Answer

A list in QuickBooks may have an invalid deleted entry, a deleted list entry that is not being recognised as fully deleted. To resolve this issue:

  1. Make a note of the exact error message and the action taken in QuickBooks prior to display of the error message.
  2. Open the list. (From the QuickBooks Lists menu, choose the name of the list you were using when you received the error.)
  3. If the Show All checkbox at the bottom of the list is available, make sure it is selected. (If the list contains no inactive entries, it will not be available to select with a checkmark.)
  4. Re-sort the list.
  5. Attempt the action that generated the error. If you do not receive the error message, the issue is resolved. If you continue to receive the error message after re-sorting the list, proceed to Step
  6. Run the Verify Data and Rebuild Data utilities. If you receive the error message during the Rebuild Data operation, click OK to allow the Rebuild Data utility continue. (If the Rebuild Data utility does not continue after you click OK, exit and restart QuickBooks, and try running the Rebuild Data utility again. If this is not successful, call QuickBooks technical support.)
  7. Attempt the action that generated the error. If you do not receive the error message, the issue is resolved. If you continue to receive the error message after completing the Rebuild Data utility, call QuickBooks technical support.
