Invalid Tax Number - Employee PAYE tax number field changes to ‘0’

Legacy KB ID: 5114

Question

Why have some employee PAYE tax codes been changed to ‘0’?

Answer

Re-enter 9 zeros for employees using the PAYE tax code ND.

The Issue

You will encounter this issue for Employees on the PAYE tax code ND, a tax code that represents no IRD tax number given and the tax number field set to 000000000, and after the Employee List has been exported to an IIF file and then reimported.

On exporting the 000000000 is translated to 0.

On importing, the existing 000000000 is replaced with 0 from the IIF file.  A single zero in the tax number field is an invalid tax number.

Workaround

Re-enter 9 zeros for employees using the PAYE tax code ND.
