Downloading content - Reckon Insights

Downloading Content

Being able to share content is key, and Reckon Insights has several built-in options to help get information out to the people that need it most. One of these is downloading, and Reckon Insights gives the ability to download both individual visualisations, and entire Dashboards.

Downloading Dashboards

Dashboards can be downloaded in either CSV or PDF format. Choose CSV when you want to analyse the figures, and PDF when you want to present.

Simply click on the menu button at the top right, and select Download.

Then choose between downloading in CSV or PDF format.

CSV Format

Choosing CSV will produce the same number of CSV files as there are elements on the dashboard, each with the individual content for the respective element, although everything is zipped up into one file for downloading.

The zip-file contains a folder named after the dashboard.

Within this folder are the CSV files, one for each element of the dashboard, for you to analyse using your tool of choice.

PDF Format

The other choice of download format is PDF. Downloading as PDF will render all the elements in the dashboard into one document, showing the current state of the Dashboard, minus the active elements. For this reason the PDF takes longer to generate.

Choosing PDF presents some download options.

  • Paper Size: Choose the paper size for printouts, or leave at the default for screen display.
  • Orientation: Choose the page orientation. The page orientation dialog is only displayed when a paper size is chosen.
  • Expand tables to show all rows: Select this option to see all the rows that are available in the table visualization, rather than only the rows that are visible in the thumbnail without scrolling.
  • Arrange dashboard tiles in a single column: Rearranges all the dashboard elements into a single column, all elements being resized to match the widest element.

A web page is displayed showing the status of the PDF file generation, and showing the download location of the file when this has been completed.

Downloading Individual Visualisations

Individual visualisations can be downloaded in a variety of formats, for presenting, or analysing with various tools. Click on the settings cog at the top right of an individual visualisation, and select Download.

The download dialog will open. This provides a selection of download file formats, various options to apply to the downloaded data, and a default filename, which may be accepted or changed. The same options are available for each of the download formats, excepting the PNG image, which only gets a filename.

  • File Format: Choose which file format you require from: TXT (tab-separated text), Excel, CSV (comma-separated text), JSON, HTML, Markdown, or a PNG image of the visualisation (note: no options but filename).
  • Results: Choose "With visualisation options applied" to have the visualisation design-time options like row-numbers, row-limits, totals, full field-names ands Excel conditional formatting applied. Choose "As displayed in the data table" and the download will look like the data table section of the visualisation.
  • Values: Unformatted does not apply things like rounding and special characters. Formatted does apply them.
  • Limit: Choosing "Results in Table" provides all the data, while choosing "Custom" allows you to enter numerical limits to the number of rows and columns.
  • Filename: A default filename is supplied, which can be changed.

Click Open in Browser to preview the data in a new browser tab and download from there if it suits, or Download to download the file directly.
