Reckon Accounts Personal: Cannot install Reckon Accounts Personal on 64-bit Windows

Legacy KB ID: 5220

Question

Why won’t Reckon Accounts Personal install on my 64-bit computer?

It does not work from the Installation Screen or from directly clicking on setup.exe on the DVD directory.

Answer

Click on ISsetup.exe on the DVD at C:\Temp\Reckon_Accounts_Personal_20xx\HAB\DISK1\

The Issue

Windows 64-bit systems have slightly different operating procedures from earlier versions that results in Reckon Accounts Personal Range having difficulty starting the installation process on some computers.

The special installation program ISsetup.exe does not encounter these difficulties.

Workaround

Open C:\Temp\Reckon_Accounts_Personal_20xx\HAB\DISK1\ and click on ISsetup.exe to start the installation.

If the installation still does not start, there are other factors are preventing successful operation.

If this does not work, please continue reading.

We would strongly recommend reaching out to your personal IT, or reaching out to an IT specialist for the following instructions.
Some of these instructions relate to your Windows operating system and/or networking environment.

If the previous does not work, attempt the following changes:

  1. Reboot the PC and try to install again with the ISsetup.exe.
  2. Right-click on ISsetup.exe, and select "Run as Administrator" and try again.

If this fails, try the following steps:

  1. Clear the C:\Temp\ folder, and attempt to unzip the installer again
  2. Boot your PC in Windows Safe Mode and attempt to install the program (you can read more about this here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234 )
  3. Disable User Account Control (you can read more about this here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/windows-security/disable-user-account-control )
  4. Disable any firewalls, antivirus, and other security programs (you may want to disconnect from the internet temporarily for security purposes).
  5. Stop and start Windows Installer service and try to install the program again. To do this, you can do the following:
    1. Open up the Windows Control Panel.
    2. Select Administrative Tools.
    3. Open Services.
      1. Highlight Windows Installer.
      2. Right-Click on "Windows Installer".
      3. Select "Stop this Service".
      4. After it has stopped, Right-Click "Windows Installer".
      5. Select "Start this Service".
  6. Check task manager for a hidden setup.exe process and End Task it.
  7. Download a new copy of the install file from the member's website: https://members.reckon.com/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f
  8. Attempt to install from the fresh installation file.
