Question

I can't get into the company file for whatever reason ; can't open file

Answer

The program may not be able to open the data file if it has been damaged or if there is a problem. To start up the program with it trying to open the data file, hold down the "CTRL" key on your keyboard, then double click on Quickbooks icon on the desktop or through the the program menu. Keep your finger held on the "CTRL" key as the program is starting up. If done correctly, Quickbooks will appear with a green screen stating "There is no company file open". At this point, click on the file menu and select "Open Company...". Select the data file and click on "Open". This should open the data file. Alternatively restoring a backup may be necessary.

How did we do?

My company file is taking longer to open and process transactions. TLG file needs resetting.
