Reconciliation detail report showing all past reconciled transactions.

Legacy KB ID: 1801

Question

Why is every reconciled transaction from the starting date of my company showing on my reconciliation detail report?

Answer

After upgrading from a previous version of QuickBooks, if you create a reconciliation detail report before you have completed your first reconciliation, the report displays every reconciled transaction in the company data file.

The reconciliation process in this version of QuickBooks works differently than in previous versions. In order to enable generation of reports on previous reconciliations, the data for each reconciled transaction is flagged with the date of its reconciliation. The detail report is filtered based on this internal date flag. If you run a reconciliation report prior to completing a reconciliation, the program does not find any flagged transactions and is not able to distinguish dates in order to limit the number of transactions displayed

The QuickBooks reconciliation report function is working as designed in looking for the date flags. Although a reconciliation report viewed before completing a reconciliation will display all transactions from the starting date of your company file, when you complete your first reconciliation, the date flags on past reconciled transactions will be set. Reports generated after the first reconciliation will display only transactions that have not previously been reconciled.
