When I try to Customise a report, why does the program crash?

Legacy KB ID: 2890

Question

Whenever I try to customize a report in CashBook it crashes. I can actually open and print reports but as soon as I click on 'Customise' Quicken will crash with an Illegal Operation in QW.EXE. Why?

Answer

In CashBook v8 there is a limit of 255 accounts.

If you are manually entering accounts into the file when you reach the 256th account, the application will let you complete the account setup but when the account list is opened, the new account will not appear.

You can import a list or accounts into a file even if it causes the file to exceed the total of 255 accounts. However, this will cause problems with the data file. You won't be able to Customise any reports; as soon as you click on Customise Quicken will crash with an Illegal Operation in QW.EXE.

The only way to avoid this problem is to reduce the number of accounts in your data file.

NOTE: CashBook 2003 has an increased limit of 512 accounts per account type.

How did we do?
