Question

I updated my old Reckon Account Personal (Previously called Quicken) files to a later version, and can no longer see my historical prices. How can I get them back?

Answer

The following steps describe two ways to recover your historical prices.

Method 1 - Re-convert your data file.

Caution: If you reconvert your old data file you will need to re-enter in  Reckon Account Personal (Previously called Quicken) any transactions entered since the previous upgrade took place.

  1. Rename your current data file. (We recommend you rename your current data file so that it can be used at a later date if necessary.)
  2. Open Reckon Account Personal.
  3. From the File menu, select File Operations, then Rename.
  4. In the Rename File window, select your file.
  5. Type a new name in the New Name for File field.
  6. Click OK
  7. Reconvert your old data file.

Reckon Account Personal backs up your previous version data files. If you ever need them again, you can find them in the \QXXFILES subdirectory (where XX is V7 for Quicken for Version7, V8 for Quicken Version8).

  8. Choose File menu > Open.
  9. Find your old data file in the 'QXXfiles' directory.
  10. In the File Name field, enter the name of the file.
  11. Click OK.
  12. A message displays telling you that your files are about to be converted. To continue, click Yes.

Confirm your price history is available

  13. From the Investing menu, select Security Detail View.
  14. Select Update, Edit Price History.
  15. You should see your price history. If not, follow the steps described in Method 2.

Method 2 - Re-enter your historical prices

Caution: If you use the following method you will lose all price history not contained in the registers. For example, any price history that is not associated with a transaction will be lost.

  1. Delete your *.qph file.
  2. On your hard drive, open the Reckon Account Personal directory, or if your data files are in a different directory, open that directory.
  3. Locate your Price History file (xxxx.qph)
  4. Delete the file.
  5. Re-enter your historical prices.
  6. Open your data file in Reckon Account Personal.
  7. From the Investing menu, select Security Detail View.
  8. Select Update, Edit Price History.
  9. Select New and complete the fields for each of the prices you want to enter.
