Reckon Cloud POS: Your current browser is not supported in Google Chrome

Problem:

When I launch my Reckon Cloud POS Cash Register in Google Chrome, I get the following error:

Your current browser is not supported.

Workaround

This is an issue with the latest version of the Chromium engine (v119.xx) disabling WebSQL functionality, which is required for Reckon Cloud POS functionality.

To amend this issue, you will need to access your Chrome's development flag to Enable "Allows access to WebSQL APIs".

This workaround will only function until Chrome v123. You can install an older version of Chrome and disable the auto-update to continue using Reckon Cloud POS in Chrome. Steps are provided at the bottom of this article under the alternate option section.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Open a new tab and type: chrome://flags/.
  3. In the "Search flags" bar, enter in WebSQL.
  4. Change "Allows access to WebSQL APIs" from Default to Enabled.
  5. Relaunch Chrome.

From here, you will be able to access Reckon Cloud POS through Google Chrome.

Alternate method: use older version of Google Chrome

Google will stop allowing users to enable WebSQL feature that Reckon Cloud POS requires after Chrome version 123, scheduled to go live on March 19, 2024.

To continue using Reckon Cloud POS, you will need to install an older version of Chromium based browser and disable the automatic update. We have provided the below steps that you can take to install the older version.

The steps are provided as a guidance only. The link provided to download the older version is not from Reckon and users should take care when performing the steps.

  1. Go to this link and select Stable and version 117 from the filter
  2. For the 64-bit Windows version (applies to most users), click Windows (x64) > download mini_installer.exe (Installer)
Which version of Google Chrome do I have?
Click on the menu (three dots at the top right of your screen) > Help > About Google Chrome.
For example: Version 119.0.6045.160 (Official Build) (64-bit)
  3. Find the downloaded installer (from the browser's Downloads section or by browsing to your computer) and run it to install Google Chrome.
  4. This will install the Dev version of Chromium browser and you will notice the icon looks different than the regular version.
  5. Open the newly installed Dev version of Chromium browser and you can access Reckon Cloud POS.
  6. Reckon suggests that you don't use this version of Chrome other than accessing Reckon Cloud POS.
