Creating a new item crashes QuickBooks

Legacy KB ID: 3966

Question

Why does QuickBooks crash when I create a new item?  I have done the usual steps to isolate and correct corruptions.  I have without success:

·         created a portable company file and restored it;

·         resorted the lists;

·         rebuilt the data file three times and no errors detected;

·         exported the items to IIF and found no irregularities in the fields;

and my items list does not exceed my version’s limit (standard: 10,000; Enterprise: tested to 100,000)

Answer

We have experienced this problem where the Item List is showing an expanded number of columns (Customized Columns).  The columns table has become corrupt.

To refresh the Columns table you will need to reset the Item List view to default.

To reset the Item List View:

1.    On the Item List, click the Item button > Customise Columns;

2.    Click on the Default button to return the display to the default columns.

By setting Customised Columns to default you are carrying out a similar action to resorting lists.

You can now restore your Customised Columns and successfully create new items.

How did we do?

Unable to search for the item when in the transactions like invoices/Bills/Estimates etc.

Error: Your list of user names and passwords appears to have been tampered with, or has become damage
