QBWin.log Error: "GetDecryptedCreditCardNumber Failed"

Legacy KB ID: 3862

Question

When I verify my datafile and examine the QBwin.log file I see the following error:

QBWin.log error: el_cname.c (28733) : MESSAGE: ddd mmm yy hh:mm:ss LVL_SEVERE_ERROR--GetDecryptedCreditCardNumber Failed: The decryption has failed.  CHECKPOINT: ddd mmm yy hh:mm:ss Failed to decrypt customer's credit card number.  Customer ID: ####.

What can I do about it?

Answer

This is caused by damage to the encryption of the credit card information for a customer in the Reckon Accounts file.

Solution

1. Export the Customer list to an .iif file

1      Select the File menu and select Utilities > Export > Lists to IIF.

2      Select the Customer List checkbox and click OK.

3      Click the Save In drop-down arrow and select a location to save the file, enter a file name and click Save.

2. Open the .iif file

·         Right-click the Microsoft Windows Start button and select Explore.

·         Navigate to the location of the file, right-click the file name and select Open with > Notepad.

3. Find the customer ID referenced in the error message under column C (this is the customer that is having the problem) and make a note of the customer name.

4. In Reckon Accounts, select the Customers menu and select Customer Centre and find the customer that you identified in step 3.

5. Right-click on the customer name and select Edit Customer:Job.

6. Write down the credit card information found on the Payment Info tab, and then delete it in Reckon Accounts.

7. Enter test credit card information. For example, enter 4444333322221111, and then click OK.

8. Edit the customer again and enter the correct credit card information and then click OK.

9. Run the Verify utility.
