Turning on the Windows Built-In Administrator account

Question

How do I turn on the built-in Administrator account on Windows?

Answer


To turn on the built-in Administrator on a Windows 10 or Windows 11:

  1. Click on Start, then  Search, then type "cmd" or "command prompt", then right click Command Prompt and left click Run as administrator;
  2. Type in the following command to turn on or off the account:
  • Turning on: net user administrator /active:yes
  • Turning off: net user administrator /active:no


Windows OS Pro users can also use:

  1. Right click on Computer > Manage > Local Users and Groups > Users > Administrator;
  2. Untick Account is disabled on the General tab.
